The allure of Peninsula de Osa has always been its pure and uncharted territory. Basically left untouched during Costa Rica’s agricultural expansion, this area in the country’s Southern Pacific coast is known for its rich biodiversity (amongst the world’s most exuberant) and its enrapturing nature.

Naturally, part of the appeal is getting there. There aren’t any urban comforts around, and even finding gas stations is its own ordeal, so those looking to let the virgin jungles and vacant beaches wash over them must come prepared for an engrossing tropical expedition.
Carate itself is close to the Leona Ranger Station on the east side of the expansive Corcovado National Park, about 50 kilometers south of iconic Drake Bay (one of the country’s best bets for whale watching). As one could imagine, Carate Beach is surrounded by abundant tropical wildlife, and since it’s so sparsely populated by humans, its fauna is more comfortable roaming free with little to no regard for the people that might be around.
Most of Carate’s developments are sustainable eco lodges built to blend in harmony with the enveloping beaches and rainforest, providing a cohesive sense to the whole Carate experience.
