Gene Harris is part of our real estate team of professionals in Dominical. Gene had worked in different industries when his love of surfing brought him to Costa Rica. After numerous visits to the country, he finally settled in Uvita in 2006 after selling his 8-year-long business. Upon his arrival, Gene worked on several projects, including home inspections. His keen eye for property valuations and understanding of the local lifestyle make him a great ally for clients on both the listing side and the buy-side. 1. What Was Your Dream Job as a Child?
In all honesty, when I was a child, I never thought about these types of things. I was too busy being a kid.
2. Why Did You Decide to Become a Real Estate Agent?
I felt like my knowledge of the area and the experience that I gained through doing years of home inspections here in Costa Rica would really benefit buyers and sellers.
3. What Do You Love the Most About Being a Real Estate Agent?
Being able to see so many people’s beautiful homes and gardens and traveling to new areas I haven’t been to before.
4. What is the Biggest Challenge?
Probably the biggest challenge is trying to find places that are remote and beating up my car to do it. Also, learning new technology can be a challenge for me.
5. What is the Most Rewarding Aspect of Your Work?
So many people come to Costa Rica seeking a new type of lifestyle for themselves and their families. Having made so many mistakes in my 16 years here, it’s great to be able to help someone achieve their dream and avoid those mistakes.
6. What Do You Do in Your Free Time?
I do a lot of surfing and exploring new areas. I’m also very much into permaculture.
7. If You Did Not Live in Costa Rica, Where Would You Want to Live?
Probably Northern Idaho or the Appalachian mountains.
8. What is Your Most Ambitious Goal in Life?
Learning Spanish at a level I can be proud of.
