Punta Leona is located along the Central Pacific coastline in Costa Rica, 15 minutes north of the popular tourist town of Jaco. I’ve had the pleasure of touring numerous tourist attractions all around the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica, and consistently get the following question: “Are there white sand beaches in Costa Rica?” What a lot of people don’t realize before they arrive in Costa Rica is that most of the coastline is made up of a volcanic cinnamon colored sand. There is a beautiful exception to the cinnamon sand on the Central Pacific known as Punta Leona. The Punta Leona beach is in a U-shaped enclave that protects the beautiful white sand and clear turquoise water. There are 2 main beaches in the Punta Leona neighborhood, appropriately named Playa Blanca, “White Beach,” and Playa Mantas. Playa Blanca is a little more exclusive, with only homeowners or guests of the homeowners allowed access into the gated community where the beach is located. That said, there are no private beaches in Costa Rica, so you can also access the amazing white sand beach by boat.
In Punta Leona, you will find yourself surrounded by 750 acres of lush, tropical rainforest, creating a very scenic contrast between the blue water, white sand, and green rainforest. Punta Leona is very family-friendly with beachfront restaurants, ice cream shops, tennis courts, mini golf, surfing, public pools, etc. The wildlife sightseeing in Punta Leona is world-class, including monkeys, parrots, macaws, and toucans.
The access to Punta Leona is very good, with the front entrance located on the main highway called the Costanera. There is a 10-minute drive from the main gate on the Costanera to the white sand beaches & gated communities where the homes are located. All the roads in Punta Leona are paved, with a scenic drive through the lush green jungle perfect for spotting the abundant wildlife. There are some very good luxury real estate values in the Altos de Leonamar community that provide direct access to the stunning Playa Blanca.
