Moreover, Jaco is one of the easiest beach towns to get to by public transportation or by automobile. The streets are in good condition and well signposted. Also, the town is a great launching base for other entertainment, such as nearby national parks, hidden waterfalls nestled in the surrounding rainforest, and popular beaches such as Playa Hermosa, Playa Blanca, and even Playa Bejuco and Playa Esterillos. These features have transformed it into one of the most reliable tourist markets in Costa Rica.
Because it is a little over 1 hour away from the capital, San Jose, and the Juan Santamaria International Airport, Jaco is one of the preferred destinations for locals. It is common to see Route 27 starting to get busier and busier by Friday night, as thousands of locals head out to the nearest beach town on weekends.
This has given Jaco a commercial advantage over other coastal towns. While many off-the-beaten-path tourist areas experience lows during the green season, Jaco remains highly visited thanks to the local Costa Rican market. This keeps businesses thriving and profitable all year round, making Jaco an attractive point for commerce.
Jaco is far from being a one-niche destination; in fact, it has done a great job at enticing people of all walks of life to stay and experience the pura vida lifestyle. It remains the most eclectic beach town of Costa Rica, catering to both international tourists and local visitors, millionaires and surfers, young and old, and everything in between. The improvements in infrastructure and housing options, as well as the continuous presence of locals, have resulted in people’s growing desire to stay and call Jaco their home. Once considered a mere stop in people’s vacation itineraries, this beach town currently hosts a plethora of diverse communities.
