Costa Rica has been my home country for the last 14 plus years. Initially, I had the pleasure and a privilege to work and live in one of the most scenic parts of the Costa Rican Pacific coast, South of the Manuel Antonio area, in Dominical. 10 years ago, life had a different idea for me, and it has placed me in the Central Valley, in the greater San Jose metropolitan area. The Central Valley is known for its cosmopolitan setting, with the metro area accounting for housing over 2 million people, and having a mild, spring-like climate all year round.
The fastest growing and most developed areas of the Central Valley include downtown San Jose, particularly the area known as Rohrmoser/Sabana, the western suburbs such as Escazu and Santa Ana, as well as Heredia and its nearby municipalities, such as Belen, Real Cariari, Barreal, and Lagunilla. I will examine each of these areas in forthcoming newsletters, but today I wanted to briefly talk about one of the weekend activities that we enjoy as city dwellers, and it has nothing to do with the city. I am talking about an easy trip to the Central Pacific coast towns of Herradura and Jaco.
Herradura and Jaco are about a 1.5-hour easy drive on the paved modern highway 27, and are home to the Los Sueños Marriott Hotel and Marina, which also includes a variety of residential developments, such as Del Mar condos, Bay Residences, Vistas Tres Bahias, etc
Jaco is a bustling beachfront town with all of the attractions that you would expect from a small town setting, such as numerous cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, hardware stores, a medical clinic, and gyms.
Along the way, if you wish, you can stop for a quick snack at numerous restaurants and cafes, pick up a fresh coconut, or mango ceviche, which makes your drive and overall condition even better.
