Meet Ignacio de la Hormaza

I was born and raised in San José, Costa Rica, and completed the International Baccalaureate program at the British School of Costa Rica. From a young age, I was exposed to different cultures through travel and family connections across Europe and the Americas. My father, originally from Spain, transitioned into real estate investing after a long career as a ship captain, which inspired my early passion for real estate and laid the foundation for my analytical mindset toward deals and development.

 

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad Latina de Costa Rica and spent nearly eight years working on the planning, construction, and delivery of large-scale mixed-use developments with BILCO Construction. My project portfolio includes some of Costa Rica’s most recognized developments such as Avenida Escazú, Escazú Village, Ciudad AlEste, and Solaris Santa Ana. My hands-on experience has given me deep expertise in design coordination, permitting, technical direction, construction supervision, and project operations.

 

To complement my technical background, I pursued a Master of Science in Real Estate at the University of Colorado Boulder. This program has further strengthened my skills in investment analysis, development strategy, financial modeling, and real estate markets. I now bring a comprehensive perspective to the industry, bridging the gap between design, development, and investment. I am fully bilingual and well-versed in Costa Rican laws and regulatory processes, which allows me to serve both domestic and international clients at the highest level.

 

Since joining 2CostaRicaRealEstate, I have focused on providing my clients with unmatched value through a combination of technical knowledge, market insight, and strong relationships with key developers, investors, and decision-makers in Costa Rica. My goal is to guide clients through one of the most important decisions of their lives, whether it’s acquiring a home, development site, or investment property, with transparency, trust, and clarity.

 

In addition to my work in real estate, I’m passionate about entrepreneurship. I recently launched The Golf Club, an indoor golf simulator lounge in Avenida Escazú, offering a social, inclusive, and high-tech space for golf lovers of all ages and levels. I believe in creating experiences and building businesses that add real value to the community.

 

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time in nature, surfing, hiking, diving, and fishing—and I try to travel as often as possible to meet new people and explore new cultures. I also love snowboarding and aim to visit the mountains at least once a year. I truly believe Costa Rica is one of the best countries in the world to live and invest in, thanks to its natural beauty, environmental values, quality of life, and strong public institutions.
