Meet Matthew McPherson

Born in Mission Viejo and raised in Tustin, California, Matthew McPherson brings a unique blend of Southern California roots and global experience to the Costa Rica real estate industry. A proud graduate of Pepperdine University, Matthew earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2002 before setting out to explore the world.

 

His travels took him across multiple continents, flying to England alone during summer holidays to visit family starting at the age of 5. After college, he played professional water polo in Australia for the Melbourne Tigers, later living in Bali and working for a hotel as a Sports & Activity Specialist. His first time travelling to Costa Rica came in 1998 on a surf exploration trip with then waterpolo coach and friends, and is where the love for Costa Rica began.

 

In 2005, Matthew settled in California in the Coachella Valley, 2 hours east of Los Angeles. This is where his professional working carrear began. He started as an IT Specialist for a medical imaging company which serviced 5 different locations in California. Then Life took a fateful turn during a bachelor party trip to Costa Rica, where he met his future wife & to be step-daugther, both natives of Quepos.

 

Matthew & Dayana married in 2007 and brought step-daughter Michelle to the USA at 5 years old to attend school and learn english. The couples first son, Ethan, was born in 2008 and they welcomed a second son, Liam, in 2012. In 2008, Matthew started working in the solar Industry as a Energy Consultant and still continues to consult and assist homeowners to add solar panels and batteries in the USA & Costa Rica. The McPherson Vargas family also includes two dogs (Grogu & Milo) and a cat (Bruno).

 

Matthew’s passion for real estate is matched only by his love for the ocean. An avid surfer, waterpolo player and ocean swimmer, he also enjoys running and capturing the beauty of life through water and aerial photography. These hobbies not only fuel his creativity but also keep him deeply connected to the communities he serves.
