Chris Norris is the newest addition to our amazing workforce, and we could not think of a better way to introduce him to our community than featuring him in our blog series: Get to Know Your Agent. Chris is the father of four children, and when he is not taking care of them, you can find him spearfishing and diving. At the young age of 7 years old, Chris visited Costa Rica and was immediately head over heels about it. Fast forward some decades, and he finally made his dream come true. Nowadays, Chris splits his time between his family and helping others make their dream of living in Costa Rica a reality.
Let’s get to know him in this candid interview!
1. What Was Your Dream Job as a Child?
My dream job? I have no idea...When I was a child, I did not think about working. I did envision myself living on the beach where I could fish, surf...
2. Why Did You Decide to Become a Real Estate Agent?
I worked in the U.S and moved to Barcelona and had all sorts of different jobs, little businesses, and entrepreneurial projects. While living in Spain, I worked as an agent for a few years, and I loved it. I love being able to find great lifestyles and homes for people. I think I’m good at it, and I thought I’d do well here in Costa Rica.
3. What Do You Love Most About Being a Real Estate Agent?
Well, I’ve only just begun....But I love to share Costa Rica and show people what the country has to offer... all the amazing benefits and lifestyles...
4. What is the Biggest Challenge?
Probably getting past the sales/shark/aggressive/money-hunger reputation that a lot of real estate agents have. That is one thing that I dislike about the industry. I know there is definitely a monetary factor, and obviously, it was one of the things that drew me in... but definitely, that reputation is one of the things I don’t like.
5. What is the Most Rewarding Aspect of Your Work?
There are two aspects: buying and selling. For me, I’m always thinking about the buying process. Just finding that perfect home, lifestyle, whether it is a business project or an amazing home that is going to create an amazing lifestyle for my clients.
6. What Do You Do in Your Free Time?
Well, I have four children, so they definitely take up some time. I love to surf, love to paddleboard, and I’m super passionate about freediving and spearfishing. That’s my thing. If anyone asked me if I’m good at anything, I would say I’m OK at a lot of things, but definitely, spearfishing is what I do. I dive more than 100 feet, and I’ve been doing that for over thirty years; it’s my passion. If I have a choice to do anything, that’s what I’m going to do. Being able to free dive with no tanks and spearfish is a huge combination. I like to go and hunt for my dinner and share it with my friends. Diving 70-80 into the abyss and bringing up my dinner, it’s beyond amazing. The world underneath the water is something that not many people see, and it’s awesome.
7. If You Did Not Live in Costa Rica, Where Would You Want to Be?
I’ve always wanted to live in Costa Rica. There’s no plan B for me. I’ve always wanted to live here, ever since I can remember. I lived in California; I was born and raised there. I love where I grew up, in a small beach town. I also lived in New York; it was amazing and horrible at the same time. I lived in Barcelona, also, which is another really big metropolitan city. I had a great time, but I’m not a city guy. I decided from there to never live anywhere where it’s cold or far from the ocean. That’s when I moved to the Canary Islands, and I lived there for a long time; great weather, great waves, great beach volleyball... That’s where I got into diving. But I always wanted to live in Costa Rica, and I finally made that permanent move about 9 years ago. And I’m here to stay!
8. What is Your Most Ambitious Goal in Life?
To leave a good legacy for my children and family.
